In the Pakistani movie industry, we have seen a wide range of films from the theatre this year. Joyland is also one of these. Kamli, for example, was a particularly women-centric picture with Saba Qamar in the lead. And despite its niche demographic, it performed exceptionally well at the box office. Otherwise, masala films such as London Nahi Jaunga & Quaid e Azam Zindabad made enough profit to become blockbusters. And just now, The Legend of Maula Jatt is king.
Among these releases, Joyland, Saim Sadiq‘s directorial first film, was ready to release in Pakistan on 18th, November 2022. This movie received several prizes and achieved international acclaim. However, on the 11th of November, only a few days before the film’s release, it was revealed that Pakistan’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting had reversed its decision to release the movie. CBFC (Central Board of Film Censors) Islamabad issued Joyland a censor certificate on August 17, 2022. However, the board reversed its judgment after receiving written objections from the public. And Ministry of Information and Broadcasting labeled this video as “uncertified”. Here is the Joyland trailer.
